Congratulations to our February Employee of the Month, Jeena Pressley!🎉

Jeena has been with Shadowfax for just shy of one year. She started out as an Events and Marketing Associate and moved into the Communications Specialist role. Her favorite part of her job is sharing Shadowfax's mission through events, marketing, and socials, and interacting with team members, individuals, and community members!

We want to take a moment to congratulate three of our team members, Rachel, Greg, and Jen, for earning their Technology Integration Certifications through SHIFT!

Rachel and Greg earned their Enabling Technology Integration Specialist (ETIS) certification, which includes hands-on technical assessment and implementation, and Jen earned her Enabling Technology Navigator (ETN) certification, which helps individuals understand, access, and navigate enabling technology.

These certifications equip them to assess individual needs, match enabling technologies to personal goals, and oversee implementation and evaluation to ensure the best possible fit for each person.

This strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality, individualized supports by thoughtfully integrating technology into the services we provide!

Congratulations to Shadowfax's Employee of the Year for 2025, Dawn Conte.

Dawn has been a valued member of the Shadowfax team for nearly two years, serving as a Job Developer and playing a pivotal role in advancing our employment efforts. Through her dedication, advocacy, and compassion, Dawn consistently helps individuals connect with meaningful opportunities in their communities.

When asked what this recognition means to her, Dawn shared:

“Becoming Employee of the Year is surprising to me. I work with so many wonderful people, and I never perceived myself as someone who would fit that description. I am truly grateful.”

Dawn also reflected on what she loves most about her role:

“My favorite part of being a Job Developer is helping individuals who are seeking employment in the community. It’s a beautiful thing when an employer sees the goodness and talent in an individual that you see too. Each person deserves the opportunity to be a part of their community and to pursue a job that they love. I love that I get to be a small part of that.”

We are thrilled to share the completed Shadowfax Corporation mural created by Ophelia Chaka Chambliss and @artistrydeluz

Titled “Organic Mechanics,” this mural beautifully captures the heart of who we are. The gears reflect the industrial character of our building and symbolize how our teams work together each day to make things happen. The gladiolus flowers represent the human side of our mission and honor our anniversary with their meaning, color, and strength.

What makes this piece even more special is the community behind it. During our 40th Year Open House, team members, families, individuals, and guests had the opportunity to contribute to the mural panels, adding their own touches and becoming part of the final artwork. This collaboration reflects the spirit of connection, creativity, and shared purpose that defines Shadowfax.

Jessica has been with us since September and has already made her mark at Shadowfax. This recognition is significant, especially since she has been with us for such a short time. Her favorite part of the job is the individuals, who make every day feel like an adventure, and she is always learning something new. She appreciates the connections she is able to create.

Fun fact: Jessica is a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries and has watched it over 9 times. She even had the opportunity to visit Covington, GA, where it was filmed, and to meet the cast of the show. Melissa has been with us for almost two years. When asked about her favorite part of the job, she said “everything!”—especially being able to foster a lighthearted and inspiring environment where individuals and staff can blossom into their authentic selves.

Congratulations to our Manager of the Quarter, Pamela Ruppert! 🌟

Pamela has been a dedicated member of the Shadowfax team for over 20 years. Her favorite part of the job is interacting with both the individuals and her team to provide the best care possible.

When asked what advice she would share with other managers, Pamela said:

“The best advice I could give to other managers is to listen. Allow others to communicate and express new ideas. Listen to the needs of others. You never know what someone is going through or how looking at something from another vantage point can change your view about something!”

Whenever work gets a little crazy, Pamela’s go-to phrase is:

We’re just a few weeks away from our Open House and 40 Years of Service Celebration! We’re excited to highlight some of the wonderful things happening in our Day Program. 🌱 🎉

One of our newest additions is Horticulture, a program that allows individuals to grow everything from fruits and vegetables to flowers. More than gardening, it fosters mental, physical, and social well-being.

Another way we’ve been using our horticulture center is as the perfect place to release butterflies. Stephen and Mark recently enjoyed this special moment along with DSP Madelyn and DSP Trasie as the classroom watched caterpillars transform into butterflies and then set them free.🦋

We kicked off DSP Month with not one, but two food trucks! 🚚✨

On Monday, we welcomed GraceFull Grounds- Coffee and Breakfast Food Truck , serving up delicious coffee and breakfast treats to start the week right. Later in the week, @foodadventurespa returned for the 4th year in a row and, as always, did not disappoint with their wide variety of options. 🍴

A wonderful Shadowfax adventure at Lake Tobias! 🐯🦓🐊

Joanna, Janice, and Amber spent the day at Lake Tobias and had the best time.
They saw everything from tigers, bears, and a black leopard to zebras, ostriches, alligators, and even a sleepy sloth.

The adventure continued with watching a reptile show, meeting a giant toad, snakes, and an alligator (which they even got to pet!). They wrapped up the day with ice cream and full hearts.

Their favorite animals? Janice loved the horses, and Joanna couldn’t get enough of the ostriches. They can't wait to go back!🐎🐊😁🍦

Noemi has been part of the Shadowfax Day Supports Program since 2014. Her favorite part of the program is spending time with friends, and now, as a Board Member, she’s excited to speak up for them.

To Noemi, being on the Board means helping and doing a job, something she takes great pride in. Known for her kind and caring nature, she shared that she likes to help others and is eager to do so. In addition to her involvement at Shadowfax, Noemi also works part-time as a crew member at Five Below.

#ThrowbackThursday to last winter when Amy, Fred, and Tony took a fun trip to Cabela’s! From the towering Santa display that Amy adored, to the glowing aquarium tunnel that Fred and Tony couldn’t get enough of, it was a memorable day full of smiles and surprises. ✨🎅 🐟

🎉🚨 Big News! Shadowfax has been selected for the COVID-19 ARPA Capital Project Funds – Digital Connectivity Technology Program!

Through this grant, we’ll receive 50 laptops to support digital access and skill-building for the individuals we serve.

Construction is currently underway for our new computer lab, which will soon provide individuals with the opportunity to:
-Check out laptops for use in the building or at home
-Participate in digital literacy and job skill programming
-Learn about accessibility tools, internet safety, and more
-Participate in digital arts programs, such as graphic design and animation

Access to internet-connected devices is critical for individuals with ID/A (Intellectual Disabilities and/or Autism), who often face greater barriers to digital tools and online communities. This project will open new doors for learning, connection, and independence.

Stay tuned for updates! The laptops are expected to arrive in August!
